TLRs and their ligands. TLR1–7 and TLR9 have been characterized to recognize microbial components. TLR3 is essential for the recognition of microbial lipopeptides. TLR1 and TL6 associate with TLR2, and discriminate subtle differences between triacyl- and diacyl lipopeptides, respectively. TLR4 recognizes LPS. TLR9 is the CpG DNA receptor, whereas TLR3 is implicated in the recognition of viral dsRNA. TLR5 is a receptor for flagellin.
